On 1 October 2026, BME’s national permanent GNSS network was extended with a new station

The receiver installed at the Tihany Geophysical Observatory of HUN-REN EPSS (THY1) can track signals from the Russian GLONASS system in addition to those of the American GPS satellites. Following an upgrade planned for spring, it will also receive signals from the European Galileo and the Chinese BeiDou satellites. HUN-REN EPSS uses the data for crustal movement studies and ionospheric research. The photos show the new station, already in operation and installed at the centre of a pair of laser corner reflectors, together with the specialists who carried out the installation: Szabolcs Rózsa (right), Head of the Department of Geodesy and Surveying at the BME Faculty of Civil Engineering and also Dean of the Faculty, and Tibor Kováts (left), technician at the Department.
