Career:

Marcell Pásztor obtained his BSc in Physics and subsequently his MSc in Geophysics at the Faculty of Science of Eötvös Loránd University. Since 2019, he has been engaged in infrasound research, initially under the supervision of Csenge Czanik and later István Bondár. In September 2021, he began his PhD studies at the Doctoral School of Earth Sciences at ELTE, with a focus on the identification of infrasound signals using machine learning algorithms. His work involves data from the Central and Eastern European Infrasound Network (CEEIN), where he categorises infrasound detections of various origins. In his study of infrasound waves propagating through the atmosphere, he pays particular attention to distinguishing signals from different sources. The work is divided into two main phases: first, detections are compared with ground truth information (e.g. seismic data for mine blasts, lightning distribution maps for thunderstorms), and then the resulting database is used to develop machine learning methods for signal detection and identification. He also operates a monitoring system built on these methods.
