International Meteor Conference (IMC 2025) Report
The IMC 2025 conference was organized by the International Meteor Organization (IMO) from 18.09.2025 to 21.09.2025 in Soest, the Netherlands. At the 44th IMC conference, nearly 100 participants listened to 37 professional lectures and 10 poster presentations. Among the speakers were staff from the European Space Agency (ESA), as well as meteor researchers, astronomers, space engineers, materials scientists and programmers from Canada, the United States, Japan and several European countries. In addition to the traditional program items, the event was also enriched by two practical workshops and two professional exhibitions. The meteorite impact simulation device, which was put into operation using a fire truck, was a great success. One of the oldest observatories in the Netherlands is located in Utrecht, close to the conference venue, and was visited by the participants as part of a joint excursion.
The HUN-REN Research Institute for Earth Physics and Space Sciences (FI) was represented at this international conference by Livia Rozália Deme, research assistant and MSc student at the Faculty of Sciences and Informatics of the University of Szeged, where she presented a poster “Multi-instrument detection and study of a Tarurid fireball over Hungary”. The first author of the poster is Csilla Szárnya, co-authors from the institute are Dr. Veronika Barta, Marcell Pásztor and Tibor Rubóczki, and the external co-authors are Dr. József Vinkó and Bence Gucsik. The poster attracted a lot of interest, especially from Dr. Juraj Tóth and his group from the Comenius University in Bratislava, with whom a professional visit was also discussed. In addition to listening to the lectures, Lívia also participated in the half-day spectroscopy workshop, where she had the opportunity to produce spectral images with various optical cameras and transmission gratings and experiment with them.
